Cherub Table 1 - 1: Sizes and coordinates of the circles from which the design of the Cherub carving is composed, and the northern stars in the matching positions: The measurements below were made on a photograph where the height of the Cherub, without the frame, was 8.892 inch as shown on Figure 1 - 1. This height is taken from a baseline that goes through the edge of the platform below the left fore foot and through the sole of the left hind foot, to the top of the knob above the crown. This baseline is also the x-axis for the coordinates of the circle centers below, whereas the y-axis touches the front of the right fore paw. The dimensions given below for each circle are first the Y-height of its center, listed from highest to lowest, then the X-distance of that center from the y-axis, and last the diameter. All are averages of several separate measurements made in inches with engineering calipers and magnifiers on the 1/10" grid overlaid over that photograph. The star names listed below each center are those shown in Figure 1 - 6. # 1: Curvature of crown front # 2: Top center flower (dia.est.) # 3: Top curve of outer wing # 4: Curvature of crown top # 5: Top curve of middle wing # 6: Nose and top of face # 7: Head # 8: Front fall of head dress OD # 9: Front fall of head dress ID # 10: Torus above rear OD # 11: Torus above rear ID # 12: Top curve of wing stub OD # 13: Top curve of wing stub ID # 14: Bottom of belly # 15: Tail stump to rump -- smallest circle # 16: Chest outside shoulder rim # 17: Shoulder rim # 18: Rear of shoulder blade # 19: Front flower (dia est.) # 20: Back of left front leg, top # 21: Front of left hind thigh # 22: Top of rear # 23: Groin # 24: Stalk of front flower -- OD # 25: Stalk of front flower -- ID # 26: Front of right hind thigh # 27: Tree trunk bottom OD # 28: Lower curve of outer wing # 29: Left front leg to chest # 30: Lower curve of wing stub # 31: Lower curve, middle wing # 32: Bud before right front leg # 33: Flower under groin (dia est.) # 34: Lower curve, left front leg Return to Figure 1-1 or use the Back button of your browser. | |||||
